Battle of Yinji

Overview

The battle of Yinji (尹集战斗) was fought at the Yin Village of Wuyang (舞阳) County in southern Henan, and it was a clash between the communists and the former nationalists turned Japanese puppet regime force who rejoined the nationalists after World War II. The battle was one of the Chinese Civil War in the immediate post World War II era, and resulted in communist victory.

Significance

The Battle of Yinji, fought at Yin Village in Wuyang County in southern Henan, was an early engagement of the resumed Chinese Civil War in the immediate aftermath of World War II. The communist force of approximately 2,500 faced a Nationalist force of 2,000, the latter composed in part of former puppet troops who had served the Japanese occupation and rejoined the Nationalist side following Japan's defeat. The entire Nationalist force of 2,000 was recorded as casualties, producing a decisive communist victory. The engagement illustrates the fluid realignment of armed factions in the weeks following Japan's surrender, as former collaborator units were absorbed into Nationalist ranks and immediately thrust into renewed conflict with communist forces across central China.
