RANKINGS
Rankings
Superlatives computed straight from the catalogue — and honest about it. Every figure is a source-cited range, not a headline number.
These lists answer the questions people actually search for — the bloodiest battle, the largest, the deadliest war — but without the false precision those lists usually carry. Each row shows the full low-to-high spread, the confidence grade behind it, and the sources it rests on. Battles and wars with no documented estimate are simply absent; nothing is imputed to fill a rank.
Every board is reproducible from the public open dataset — the ranking is just a sum and a sort over the CSVs. See the methodology for how the underlying figures are sourced.
Bloodiest battles
Battles ranked by total documented casualties across all sides — as source-cited ranges.
Largest battles
Battles ranked by total forces engaged across all sides — as source-cited ranges.
Most battle-active years
Calendar years ranked by how many catalogued battles they contain.
Wars by battle casualties
Wars ranked by the sum of their battles' documented casualties — combat losses only, not total war deaths.
