Open dataset
The structured catalogue behind the atlas — 3,010 battles across 493 wars — as CSV and JSON downloads, free under CC BY 4.0.
Every battle in the atlas carries structured facts: dates, coordinates with precision provenance, results, and — where sources support them — force-strength and casualty ranges graded by confidence and tied to a citable source. This page publishes that catalogue as flat CSV files plus one nested JSON file, regenerated after content expansions.
Numbers are ranges, not point estimates: when sources disagree we publish the spread and the confidence grade rather than picking a number. Thin rows are included honestly — the is_indexable column flags battles that carry enough data for a standalone page, and battles with no force or casualty data simply have no rows in those files.

The dataset is licensed Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). You are free to share and adapt it — including commercially — as long as you credit “The War Atlas — thewaratlas.co” with a link back to thewaratlas.co. The underlying facts are largely derived from Wikidata (CC0); the compilation, selection, and curation are what CC BY 4.0 covers.

What’s deliberately excluded
The export contains structured facts only. Wikipedia prose extracts shown on the site are licensed CC BY-SA and cannot be relicensed CC BY, so they are excluded from every file — as are the atlas’s own essay passages, which add little value as data. What remains — dates, numbers, coordinates, identifiers, relationships — is the part that is genuinely useful in a spreadsheet or a script.
