Battle of Re'im

Significance

The battle at Re'im on October 7, 2023, placed the Hamas assault directly at the headquarters of the Gaza Division, the Israeli military formation responsible for the sector facing Gaza. An attack reaching the divisional command base within five hours of the broader Hamas offensive opening signaled the scale and ambition of the incursion. The engagement at Re'im was part of the wider October 7 attack that initiated the Gaza War, making it one of the opening confrontations of a conflict that would draw sustained Israeli military operations into Gaza in the months that followed.
