Battle of Janale

Significance

The Battle of Janale involved Al-Shabaab militants attacking an African Union Mission in Somalia camp garrisoned by Ugandan forces in the town of Janale, Lower Shabelle. The assault demonstrated Al-Shabaab's continued capacity to target established AMISOM positions directly, pressuring the mission's hold over territory in the Lower Shabelle region during the broader Somali Civil War.
