Battle of Deynile

Significance

The Battle of Deynile was an engagement between Burundian AMISOM forces and al-Shabaab in the Dayniile neighborhood of Mogadishu. Burundian troops launched an offensive against the neighborhood but failed to secure it, leaving al-Shabaab in control of the district. The failed push illustrated the continued difficulty AMISOM faced in extending its foothold across Mogadishu during the broader campaign to dislodge al-Shabaab from the Somali capital.
