Battle of Xuchang

Overview

The Battle of Xuchang was fought between the National Revolutionary Army of the Republic of China and a coalition opposing Chiang Kai-shek. Both sides were part of the Kuomintang. The attack was launched in June 1930 by Feng Yuxiang. As part of the operation Feng's cavalry attacked the airfield at Guide (Shangcai). Chiang Kai-shek launched a counterattack in late June against Kaifeng.

The Battle of Xuchang was an engagement within the Central Plains War, the large-scale military conflict fought between Chiang Kai-shek's central Nationalist government and a coalition of rival Kuomintang commanders. The action occurred amid a broader operational sequence in which Feng Yuxiang's forces pressed the offensive, including a cavalry strike against the airfield at Guide (Shangcai), while Chiang Kai-shek mounted a counterattack against Kaifeng in late June 1930.
