Overview

The Battle of Międzyrzec Podlaski, also known as the Battle of Rogoźnica, took place during the November Uprising, on 29 August 1831, in the area of the villages of Manie, Rogoźnica, and Międzyrzec Podlaski, in Congress Poland. It was fought by the insurgent forces of the Polish National Government, led by Girolamo Ramorino, against the forces of the Russian Empire, led by Georg Andreas von Rosen. It was won by the insurgent forces.

Significance

The Battle of Międzyrzec Podlaski, fought in the area of the villages of Manie, Rogoźnica, and Międzyrzec Podlaski in Congress Poland, was a Polish victory during the final phase of the November Uprising. Ramorino's insurgent force of 20,000 defeated a Russian force of 15,000 under von Rosen. Coming in late August 1831, as the uprising was approaching its collapse, the engagement represented one of the few successful large-scale actions the Polish National Government was able to mount against Russian forces in this period.
