Significance

At Dębe Wielkie, the Polish army under Jan Skrzynecki defeated a Russian detachment commanded by General Geismar, inflicting approximately 2,500 casualties on a force of around 13,000. The engagement represented a successful offensive action by the November Uprising's forces against a substantially smaller Russian screening force, demonstrating that the Polish army, numbering some 40,000, could concentrate superiority against isolated Russian elements during the 1831 campaign.
