Battle of Logorište

Significance

The Battle of Logorište was part of the broader Battle of the Barracks, a coordinated Croatian National Guard effort to blockade JNA installations across Croatia and compel their garrisons to surrender weapons and materiel. At Logorište, east of Duga Resa and south of Karlovac, the ZNG established a siege of the JNA-held barracks but could not prevent the garrison from breaking out and evacuating part of its stored equipment before the ZNG occupied the vacant base. The JNA's relief effort, drawing on both regular JNA units and SAO Krajina forces to lift blockades on Logorište and other Karlovac-area garrisons, demonstrated the interconnected nature of the barracks campaign: local sieges could not be sustained in isolation when the JNA retained the capacity to mount external pressure. The engagement ended not through a decisive military outcome but via a ceasefire signed in The Hague, underscoring how diplomatic intervention rather than battlefield resolution closed this phase of the conflict.
