Significance

The Battle of Kilkis–Lahanas was a Greek victory over Bulgarian forces in Central Macedonia during the Second Balkan War, fought over the town of Kilkis. Greece fielded a substantially larger force—nearly 118,000 troops against Bulgaria's approximately 75,000—and sustained higher absolute casualties, though Bulgaria suffered a heavier proportional loss. The Greek success contributed to the broader Greek advance in Macedonia during the Second Balkan War, a conflict in which the former Balkan League allies turned against one another over the territorial distribution that followed the First Balkan War.
