Battle of Bregalnica

The Battle of Bregalnica was fought between the armies of the Kingdom of Bulgaria and the Kingdom of Serbia during the Second Balkan War from 30 June to 8 July. It was the largest battle of the war.

Significance

The Battle of Bregalnica was the largest engagement of the Second Balkan War, pitting Bulgarian forces of roughly 116,000 against a Serbian force of approximately 105,000. Combined casualties exceeded 36,000, with Bulgaria suffering around 20,000 and Serbia approximately 16,620. The scale of the fighting reflected the intensity of the conflict between former allies over the partition of Macedonia following the First Balkan War. As the defining engagement of the war, its outcome bore directly on the broader settlement that concluded the Second Balkan War and the redistribution of territorial gains among the Balkan states.
