The Federalists fielded a substantially larger force, outnumbering the Unitarians by a considerable margin, and inflicted several hundred casualties on the Argentine Confederation side. The consequences of the Federalist victory were durable, shaping the balance of power in the Argentine Civil Wars for approximately a decade. The engagement reinforced Federalist dominance in the interior provinces at a critical juncture in the long contest between Federalist and Unitarian factions that defined Argentine political conflict through much of the nineteenth century.
