The Battle of Márquez Bridge was fought on 26 April 1829 during the ongoing civil conflict between Unitarian and Federalist factions in Argentina. Federal forces under Juan Manuel de Rosas and Estanislao López, governor of Santa Fe Province, defeated a Unitarian force commanded by Juan Lavalle, who had seized the governorship of Buenos Aires Province by usurpation. The Federalist numerical advantage was decisive, with 7,000 troops against Lavalle's 1,000. The victory weakened Lavalle's political and military position and reinforced Federalist dominance in the Buenos Aires region, advancing Rosas's consolidation of power in what would become one of the defining struggles of the Argentine Civil Wars.
