Battle of Prilep

Overview

The Battle of Prilep in the First Balkan War took place on 3-5 November 1912 when the Serbian army encountered Ottoman troops near the town of Prilep, in today's North Macedonia. The clash lasted for three days. Eventually the Ottoman army was overwhelmed and forced to retreat.

Significance

The Battle of Prilep was a three-day engagement during the First Balkan War in which Serbian forces under Petar Bojović confronted Ottoman troops commanded by Zeki Pasha near the town of Prilep, in present-day North Macedonia. The Serbian force of 132,000 substantially outnumbered the Ottoman contingent of 32,000. After sustained fighting, the Ottoman army was overwhelmed and forced to retreat. The Serbian advance through the region was part of the broader campaign to seize Ottoman-held territories in the Balkans, and the outcome at Prilep contributed to the collapse of Ottoman defensive positions in Macedonia during the autumn 1912 offensive.
