Significance

The Battle of Nybøl, fought on 28 May 1848 in Sundeved, was an early engagement of the First Schleswig War in which the Danish Army defeated a German force under Hanoverian command. The Danish force of approximately 14,000 outnumbered the opposing 7,000-strong Hanoverian contingent. The Danish victory reinforced their operational position in Sundeved at a critical early stage of the conflict over Schleswig-Holstein.
