Significance

The Battle of Mouscron formed part of the broader Flanders Campaign of the War of the First Coalition. The Army of the North under Pichegru advanced northeast, initiating the siege of Menin and securing Courtrai before Austrian reinforcements enabled Clerfayt to counterattack.
