Significance
The Battle of Lottorf, fought on November 24, 1850, was the final engagement of the First Schleswig War between Denmark and the Duchies of Schleswig and Holstein. A Danish victory under Christian Bauditz over the Schleswig-Holstein forces commanded by Karl Wilhelm von Willisen, it brought the armed conflict to a close. As the concluding battle of a war that had begun in 1848 with the duchies' attempt to break from Danish rule, Lottorf marked the military exhaustion of the Schleswig-Holstein cause and the reassertion of Danish authority over the disputed territories, at least for the immediate term.
