Battle of Izúcar

Significance

The Battle of Izúcar took place on 23 February 1812 near Izúcar de Matamoros, Puebla, as part of the broader insurgent campaign during the Mexican War of Independence. The engagement pitted royalist forces under Ciriaco del Llano against rebel forces commanded by Mariano Matamoros y Guridi, one of the prominent insurgent leaders of the period.
