Battle of Imus

Significance

The Battle of Imus was the first major engagement of the Philippine Revolution in Cavite province, occurring in the immediate aftermath of Bonifacio's attack on the gunpowder magazine at San Juan del Monte in Manila. Fought over three days in September 1896, it signaled the spread of revolutionary activity beyond Manila into Cavite, a province that would become a central theater of the revolt against Spanish colonial rule. The involvement of Emilio Aguinaldo, Baldomero Aguinaldo, Candido Tirona, and Jose Tagle on the Katipunan side against a Spanish force roughly three times larger in numbers underscored the scale of organized resistance already present in the early weeks of the revolution.
