Battle of Binakayan–Dalahican

Significance

The Battle of Binakayan–Dalahican, fought November 9–11, 1896, produced the first significant Filipino victory in the Philippine Revolution. Across simultaneous engagements at Binakayan in Cavite Viejo, Dalahican and Dagatan in Noveleta, and to a lesser extent in Imus and Bacoor, Katipunan forces under a large command including Emilio Aguinaldo, Artemio Ricarte, and Edilberto Evangelista repulsed a substantially smaller Spanish force. The Spanish army retreated demoralized and in disarray, a outcome that carried strategic weight beyond the local engagement. Coming early in the revolution, the victory demonstrated that organized Filipino resistance could defeat Spanish regulars in the field, reinforcing Katipunan control in Cavite province and lending credibility to the broader insurgent cause at a critical moment in the conflict.
