The Battle of Hundheim took place during the Austro-Prussian War as part of the Campaign of the Main on 23 July 1866 between the combined forces of the Prussia and Saxe-Coburg and Gotha against the armies of Baden.

Significance

The Battle of Hundheim was a secondary engagement within the Campaign of the Main, the western theater of the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. Prussia, allied with Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, engaged the larger Baden force at Hundheim on July 23, 1866. Baden fielded approximately 4,500 troops against a Prussian force of around 1,300, yet Baden sustained 102 casualties. The engagement was part of Prussia's broader effort to neutralize the German states aligned with Austria before a general settlement could be imposed, pressing Baden and other Main Confederation members into submission as the war moved toward its conclusion.
