Battle of Goliad

Significance

The Battle of Goliad was the second skirmish of the Texas Revolution, fought when Texas settlers attacked the Mexican Army garrison at Presidio La Bahía in the early-morning hours of October 9, 1835. The fort's location carried strategic weight: La Bahía lay halfway between the only other large Mexican garrison in the region and the port of Copano, then an important point of entry into Texas. Seizing it disrupted a link in the Mexican military's logistical and positional network at the outset of the revolution, denying centralist forces a position that connected interior garrisons to coastal supply lines.
