Battle of Acayuazá

Significance

The Battle of Acayuazá, fought on July 18, 1868, near Reduto-Corá, resulted in a Paraguayan victory over the forces of the Triple Alliance despite numerical disadvantage. With Allied strength recorded at 1,500 troops and Paraguayan forces smaller still, the outcome demonstrated that Paraguayan resistance remained capable of local offensive success even as the broader war pressed heavily against Paraguay. The engagement contributed to the pattern of stubborn Paraguayan defense during the 1868 campaign phase, complicating Allied operations in the theater around Reduto-Corá.
