2025 Russian drone incursion into Poland

Significance

On September 9, 2025, between 19 and 23 unarmed military drones entered Polish airspace, reportedly launched from Russia. The incursion directly activated NATO collective defense mechanisms: Poland's Quick Reaction Alert was triggered, and aircraft from the Polish Air Force and other NATO members — including the Dutch Air Force, which shot down up to four of the drones — were scrambled in response.
