Siege of Nicomedia

Overview

The Siege of Nicomedia, or Siege of Izmit, took place from 1333 until 1337, when Orhan sieged the city of Nicomedia. The Byzantine garrison surrendered due to lack of food and resources. Orhan's victory sealed Ottoman control of Bithynia.

Significance

The Siege of Nicomedia, conducted by Orhan Ghazi from 1333 to 1337, resulted in the surrender of the Byzantine garrison after its supplies were exhausted. The fall of Nicomedia sealed Ottoman control of Bithynia, consolidating territorial gains in the region within the broader Byzantine–Ottoman wars.
