Operation Linda Nchi marked Kenya's direct military intervention into southern Somalia beginning in October 2011, deploying approximately 6,000 Kenyan Defence Forces personnel against Al-Shabaab positions. The operation represented a significant escalation of regional involvement in the Somali Civil War, with Kenya citing cross-border security threats as justification for the incursion.
