Significance
At Thouars, the Royalist Vendéen forces under Lescure, Bonchamps, and La Rochejaquelein seized the town and compelled the Republican garrison under Quétineau to surrender. The engagement demonstrated the Vendéen capacity to take defended urban positions and extend Royalist control over the region, adding a significant town to territory held against the Republic during the early phase of the insurrection.
