Battle of Tenancingo

Significance

The Battle of Tenancingo, fought on the outskirts of Tenancingo de Degollado in the State of Mexico, was a engagement during the Mexican War of Independence in which insurgent forces under José María Morelos y Pavón defeated royalist troops commanded by Rosendo Porlier y Asteguieta. The victory added to Morelos's record of battlefield successes against Spanish crown forces during the independence struggle, reinforcing the operational capacity of the rebel movement in central Mexico.
