Significance

The Battle of Taguanes was fought on 31 July 1813 between Spanish royalist forces and the Second Republic of Venezuela as part of the Admirable Campaign, Simón Bolívar's rapid military drive to reclaim Venezuelan territory. With a Venezuelan force of approximately 2,500 against a royalist strength of roughly 1,800, the engagement formed one of the constituent actions of a campaign notable for its pace and ambition. The Admirable Campaign culminated in the restoration of patriot control over Caracas and the declaration of the Second Republic, making Taguanes one of several engagements that collectively enabled that outcome.
