Admirable Campaign

Overview

The Admirable Campaign was a military action led by Simón Bolívar in which the provinces of Mérida, Barinas, Trujillo and Caracas were conquered by the Patriots. Its objective was to free Venezuela from Spanish control, which was accomplished in conjunction with Santiago Mariño's simultaneous campaign in the east.

Significance

The Admirable Campaign resulted in Patriot forces under Simón Bolívar seizing the provinces of Mérida, Barinas, Trujillo, and Caracas from Royalist control. Conducted in coordination with Santiago Mariño's simultaneous eastern campaign, the operation effectively expelled Spanish authority from a broad swath of Venezuelan territory. Together, these converging offensives represented a major reassertion of the independence cause in Venezuela during the broader Venezuelan War of Independence, temporarily reversing Royalist dominance and restoring Patriot governance over the country's core regions, including its capital.
