The Battle of Skalitz formed part of the rapid Prussian advance through Bohemia during the Königgratz/Sadowa campaign of the Austro-Prussian War. Fought one day after the Prussian victory at Náchod, it extended the pressure on Austrian forces in the region, with Steinmetz's forces defeating those of Archduke Leopold.
