Battle of Sanna's Post

Significance

The Battle of Sanna's Post was fought between British Empire forces under Robert Broadwood and Orange Free State commandos under Christiaan de Wet during the Second Boer War. A British force of approximately 2,000 faced a Boer force of around 1,600. British casualties ranged from 134 to 426, indicating a costly engagement for the imperial side. The battle occurred in March 1900, a period when British forces were advancing into the Boer republics, and an engagement producing losses of this scale against a numerically smaller Boer force underscored the persistent operational challenge of subduing Boer commandos even as conventional resistance was weakening. De Wet's ability to inflict significant casualties on a larger British column reflected the asymmetric effectiveness of Boer mobile tactics during this phase of the war.
