Battle of Pinsk

Overview

The Battle of Pinsk was an engagement of the Polish–Soviet War that took place from 23 February 1919 to 5 March 1919. It was fought between the Second Polish Republic and the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. The battle ended in a Polish victory.

Significance

The Battle of Pinsk, fought from late February into early March 1919, was an early engagement of the Polish–Soviet War in which Polish forces under Aleksander Narbutt-Łuczyński defeated Soviet forces commanded by G.M. Bobrowski. The Polish victory secured or contested control of the Pinsk area during the opening phase of a conflict that would ultimately determine the eastern borders of the newly reconstituted Polish state. As one of the initial clashes of the war, it contributed to establishing Polish operational momentum in the borderlands region.
