Significance
The Nihm Offensive, beginning in mid-December 2015, marked a coordinated push by Hadi government forces into the District of Nihm, a strategically positioned area bordering Al-Jawf and Marib governorates. The seizure of Mas camp and, within days, the 312th and 334th Armored Brigade camps represented a significant territorial advance along axes linking two key governorates. Houthi and allied forces mounted fierce resistance that prolonged the fighting into February 2016, when government forces finally consolidated control of the 312th Armored Corps camp. The operation demonstrated the government's capacity to conduct a multi-axis offensive drawing forces from both Marib and Al-Jawf, though the protracted resistance underscored the difficulty of dislodging entrenched Houthi positions even when outnumbered or outmaneuvered at the operational level.
Tactics
Government forces advanced along two axes simultaneously, with columns moving from Marib and Al-Jawf converging on the District of Nihm. The initial seizure of Mas camp was followed within days by the capture of the 312th and 334th Armored Brigade camps on 19–20 December. Houthi forces offered fierce resistance that extended the campaign well beyond the initial phase, with the 312th Armored Corps camp not fully secured until February 2016.
