Battle context

The Battle of Lundby, fought south of Lundby in northeast Himmerland, was the last engagement of the Second Schleswig War. Despite involving only company-sized forces on each side, it ended the war on a costly note for Denmark, with the Danish force suffering heavy losses in the closing action of the conflict. The outcome encapsulated the broader Danish experience of the war: a smaller force absorbing disproportionate casualties against a Prussian enemy fighting from prepared positions.
