Battle of Krivasoo took place near the Krivasoo, Estonia during the Estonian War of Independence between the Estonian Army and the Red Army. It is considered one of the last engagements of the conflict before a ceasefire was called in early January 1920.

Significance

The Battle of Krivasoo, fought near Krivasoo in Estonia, was one of the last major engagements of the Estonian War of Independence before the ceasefire concluded in early January 1920. Commanded by Aleksander Tõnisson on the Estonian side and Vladimir Gittis for Soviet Russia, the battle saw a substantially smaller Estonian force of 15,000 confront a Red Army strength of approximately 40,000. Soviet casualties of 35,000 out of that force indicate a decisive tactical defeat for the Red Army. As one of the final actions before the armistice, the outcome reinforced Estonia's negotiating position as the war moved toward its conclusion.
