Battle context

The Battle of Khasham, fought near the towns of Khasham and Al Tabiyeh in the Deir ez-Zor Governorate, marked a direct kinetic confrontation between Operation Inherent Resolve coalition forces and Syrian government-aligned forces, including pro-government militias. Coalition air and artillery strikes were delivered in response to a reported attack on a joint U.S. military and Syrian Democratic Forces position, resulting in reported casualties of between 100 and 400 on the pro-government side.
