Battle of Hostomel

Significance

The battle for Hostomel was part of the Russian offensive aimed at encircling and besieging Kyiv from the west. Russian forces sought control of Hostomel alongside Bucha and Irpin as stepping stones toward isolating the Ukrainian capital. The Kyiv Oblast State Administration subsequently identified Hostomel, together with Irpin, Bucha, Highway M06, and the northern part of Vyshhorod Raion, as among the most dangerous zones in the oblast during this phase of the war, reflecting the intensity of Russian pressure along the western approach to Kyiv.
