The Battle of Dubienka was fought during the Polish–Russian War of 1792 as Russian forces under Kakhovsky sought to force a crossing of the Bug River against a Polish defensive force under Kościuszko. Despite a numerical disparity of roughly 5:1, the Polish defenders inflicted approximately 4,000 casualties on the Russian army before withdrawing. The engagement demonstrated that disciplined Polish resistance, even on unfavorable terms, could impose significant cost on Russian operations. However, the eventual Russian occupation of the crossing site meant the strategic objective passed to Russian hands, consistent with the broader trajectory of the 1792 war, which ended in Polish capitulation and the Second Partition of Poland.
