The Battle of Doliana occurred on 30 May 1821 N.S. during the Greek War of Independence when Greek revolutionaries defeated the forces of the Ottoman Empire at Doliana in the Morea province of the Ottoman Empire.

Significance

The Battle of Doliana was a Greek revolutionary victory against Ottoman forces in the Morea in the early weeks of the Greek War of Independence. Fought in May 1821, the engagement saw a Greek force of roughly 2,500–3,000 fighters defeat an Ottoman force of approximately 6,000, a considerably larger body of troops. The outcome contributed to the consolidation of revolutionary control in the Morea, where successive Greek successes in this period were critical to establishing the insurrection as a viable military and political undertaking rather than an easily suppressed uprising.
