The Battle of Cremona, fought on the night of 31 January to 1 February 1702, was an engagement between French forces under Maréchal Villeroi and an Imperial Austrian army led by Prince Eugene of Savoy, occurring in the opening phase of the War of the Spanish Succession. French casualties were recorded at 1,200, and Villeroi himself was among those captured during the engagement — a significant loss of senior command for French forces in the Italian theater. The operation also involved Prince de Vaudémont on the Habsburg side, indicating coordinated Imperial command.
