Battle context

The Battle of Calebee Creek, fought in Macon County, Alabama, demonstrated the limits of the United States' eastern offensive axis during the Creek War. General Floyd commanded roughly 1,200 Georgia volunteers, a cavalry company, and 400 allied Yuchi warriors when Red Stick forces under Paddy Walsh and William Weatherford launched a night assault on his camp. Although Floyd repulsed the attack, his force sustained 150 casualties — losses severe enough that he immediately withdrew to the Chattahoochee River. The battle effectively ended Floyd's campaign thrust into Creek territory from the east, leaving the burden of sustained offensive operations to other American columns pressing into the heart of Red Stick country.
