The Battle of Burkersdorf took place on 21 July 1762 during the Third Silesian War. A Prussian army of 23,000 men fought an Austrian army of around 20,000 men.

Significance

The Battle of Burkersdorf on July 21, 1762 brought together Frederick the Great commanding a Prussian force of 23,000 against an Austrian army of 20,000 under Leopold Joseph von Daun. Prussian casualties of 1,600 against Austrian losses of 3,000 indicate a tactical outcome favorable to Prussia within the closing phase of the Seven Years' War. The engagement stands as one of the later pitched confrontations between the two principal continental belligerents of that war, fought in the same year that preliminary peace negotiations were advancing toward the Treaty of Hubertusburg.
