The Battle of Buceo was a decisive naval engagement fought off the coast of Montevideo during the Argentine War of Independence. An Argentine fleet commanded by Irish-born William Brown clashed with a Spanish fleet under Admiral Sierra over several days in May 1814. The engagement resulted in significant Spanish casualties, with the Espagne accounting for 500 losses.
