Battle of Beiping–Tianjin

Overview

The Battle of Beiping–Tianjin, also known as the Battle of Beiping, Battle of Peiping, Battle of Beijing, Battle of Peiking, the Peiking–Tientsin Operation, and by the Japanese as the North China Incident was a series of battles of the Second Sino-Japanese War fought in the proximity of Beiping and Tianjin. It resulted in a Japanese victory.

Significance

The Battle of Beiping–Tianjin was a series of engagements fought near Beiping and Tianjin early in the Second Sino-Japanese War, resulting in a Japanese victory. Japan committed approximately 180,000 troops against a Chinese force of around 75,000, a disparity that weighed heavily on the outcome. Chinese casualties reached nearly 2,000. The fall of these two strategically significant northern cities represented a major early territorial gain for Japan, consolidating its position in North China and demonstrating the scale of military force it was prepared to deploy in the broader conflict.
