The Battle of Autossee was one of several coordinated American offensives launched against Red Stick Creek towns during the Creek War. General John Floyd led a combined force of militia and allied Creek against the towns of Autossee and Tallassee, destroying both settlements and killing 200 Red Stick warriors. The burning of these towns represented a direct strike at the material and territorial base of the Red Stick faction, a strategy American commanders employed across the theater to degrade Red Stick capacity for sustained resistance. Floyd's operation demonstrated that U.S. forces, reinforced by allied Creek, could penetrate Red Stick territory and strike significant population centers, adding pressure alongside parallel campaigns conducted by other commanders during the same period of the war.
