2018 Tripoli Clashes

Significance

The 2018 Tripoli clashes formed part of the broader contest over control of Libya's capital during the Second Libyan Civil War. Running from late August through late September 2018, the fighting involved several militias competing for dominance within Tripoli, reflecting the fragmented armed landscape that undermined the Government of National Accord's authority in its own seat of government. The clashes were eventually ended by a ceasefire rather than a decisive military outcome, leaving the underlying militia rivalries unresolved and the capital's security situation unstable.
