Ionian Revolt

The Battle of Lade was a naval engagement fought during the Ionian Revolt between an alliance of Ionian cities and the Persian Empire of Darius the Great. The battle resulted in a decisive Persian victory that effectively ended the revolt. As the culminating naval confrontation of the Ionian uprising, the defeat of the allied Ionian fleet removed the primary obstacle to Persian reassertion of control over the Greek cities of Asia Minor, collapsing the coalition that had sustained resistance against Achaemenid rule. The commanders recorded on the Ionian side include Dionysios, while Datis commanded for the Achaemenid Empire.
