Siege of Stralsund

Significance

The Siege of Stralsund was an engagement during the Thirty Years' War in which forces of Denmark–Norway, under commanders including Heinrich Holk, Alexander Seaton, Alexander Lindsay, Robert Munro, and Alexander Leslie, defended against an Imperial force commanded by Albrecht von Wallenstein and Hans Georg von Arnim. The presence of Wallenstein, the dominant Imperial military figure of the period, on the besieging side reflects the broader Imperial effort to extend Habsburg authority into the Baltic littoral during this phase of the war. The concentration of Scottish and Scandinavian commanders on the Danish side attests to the multinational character of the anti-Imperial coalition at this stage of the conflict.
